Is there a way to change the name of a prototype?

Answered Dave 9 years ago

On day 1, when I wasn't sure whether I'd be settling on JustinMind or just comparing it with several other options under consideration, I named my first prototype "Mock-off" in a (I thought) humorous reference to "bake-off" competitions.

The idea was that I'd create a "mock-off" entry in each of several prototyping tools and use that to see which one was best.

Although it was only the second "contestant" (after UXPin, which "blew up" my prototype, scattering my components across thousands of pixels of otherwise blank canvas) JustinMind won the "mock-off" immediately. It's great.

But my "Mock-off" prototype grew into the prototype of our product, but it's still stuck with that silly name.

I can see how to change the name of a project, but not the name of a prototype.

Help?

Hi Dave,

I've been doing some tests and I am sorry to say this is not possible.

When resharing, either the project keeps the same name or it is uploaded as a new project with the new name.

Hi Dave, let me add some information:

You can replace the project if you do so directly from the web interface: changing the .vp file's name and choosing the option 'Replace with a new version' on usernote. That way, the link and tokens will be the same, just take into account synchronizing or exporting the comments because they might be deleted when replacing the prototype.

I went a slightly different route: I chose "Share" from the "Share" menu, which created a new prototype named according to the .vp file, so now my team sees a much more reasonable name.

On the other hand, if you would consider adding the ability to rename a prototype via the web interface (or within Prototyper Pro), I would take it as a kindness.
