Please don't auto-scroll the canvas, especially just on mouseover

I'm trying to align some components visually near the right edge of the canvas.

1. I scroll the canvas all the way to the right using the bottom scroll bar.

2. I move the mouse (without clicking) into the canvas.

3. The canvas scrolls left slightly, so I can no longer see the right edge of my work.

Please don't do that. Almost every time the canvas auto-scrolls, it makes things harder, rather than easier for the user.
