What is the first day of the monthly subscription - a purchase day or an activation day?

I am on the final weeks of the trial period and going to buy a license using a monthly subscription. A question: if I buy a license before the trial period expires (e.g. today) and then activate the license key on the last day of the trial (e.g. a week from now), when will the first month of the subscription start - today (at purchase time) or in a week (at activation time)?
